Applying to college has never been my dream. I always knew the system could be better. When I was really young, about 10 years old, I decided I wanted to be a pilot because I loved the sky. That’s why I dyed my hair blue and white.
Sadly, in the United States, pilots aren’t allowed to have ADHD. So I went off my medication, and my grades started to slip. I had to choose between continuing school and staying in a system I knew was broken, that everyone knows could be better — or becoming a pilot. I decided I’d just go to college normally, which is what I’m in the process of attempting to do now as an incoming High School senior.
I started this because I truly believe that what I can provide will be far better than what currently exists. I love learning, and I believe school diminshes that love. The first book I ever read was A More Beautiful Question by Warren Berger. It inspired me to seek out answers to my own questions, and from there I dove into everything I was interested in, from neuroscience to history.
I realized that there are so many ways to access information in a holistic way, but people don’t care because it’s widely assumed that the best way is still school. Maybe in the past that was true, but now it’s an entirely different game. I can capture this and bring my vision to our world.
